Phishing

Avatar David Whitton
I have recently recieved an email purporting to be from Apple asking me to update my details with them within the next 48 hours otherwise my email account will be deleted. The request requires full details of my address and credit card details to be sent.

Talking to Apple they admitted that they are having notification of a great number of these requests and asked that the original email be forwarded to [undisclosed email] for their legal dept to try to take action

Obviously don't reply to the original request!

Another message going the rounds. Along the lines of 'your account has been used to download a copy of Mavericks in Spain. Please contact us so that we can confirm your details'

The address of this Apple account is on an eBay server so I have forwarded a copy to [undisclosed email]

It's also very common to have an email telling me my account was used to sign in to iCloud/FaceTime etc. on some device or other. Sometimes it was me :-) and the mail really was from Apple!

Another Phishing email going the rounds saying

Apple ID Temporarily Locked

and directing you to
> Validate My Apple/iCloud Account Details
which is a sit that wants to collect your information as per an iCloud registration including credit card info.

So be warned
This is the address they direct you to
https://securitycentreicloud.net/myappleaccountmessageviewticket-id-8912380357849182wua-secureapple/?email=xxxxx@xxxx

where xxxxx@xxxx
is the targetted email address.
