Bookmarks

Avatar Graham Caves
Hello Folks,

When you open your bookmarks tab I had various folders listed down the page.

Bookmarks menu, Shopping, Mac etc etc

I seem to have removed or deleted one folder so my question is this.

I did a backup yesterday when the folder was there - can I recover it from the backup or is there another way of getting it back please. I am using Mavericks on an iMac.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hope to see you all in 2014

Graham

Hi Graham, Happy New Year...

A.
If you have “exported Bookmarks”

Safari > File > Export Bookmarks…

all you have to do is to go to

Safari > File > Import Bookmarks… and import your Bookmarks backup.

B.
Otherwise, try going (on your backed-up system) to

Users > Graham > Library > Safari and copy “Bookmarks.plist”

to your current User > Graham > Library > Safari folder. (Keep the current one safe on your desktop just in case, and don’t overwrite it.)

It may be sensible to do this while Safari is NOT running, and in any case you will need to restart Safari.

If you are using Time Machine you should be able to find the older Bookmarks.plist version there by going through the Time Machine app.

If you don’t see your User Library in the Finder, click on the Finder “Go” menu and hold down the Option key (alt) upon which it should magically appear in the list. Apple keep it hidden so that the contents are preserved from fiddly fingers.

If you are still in doubt or worried, ‘phone me.
