New Broadband contract

Avatar Alan Cox
I am 'with' Plusnet and rang them to see if they could offer me a better contract. They could and did. Unlimited GB-age at a lower price than I had with 6O GB-age (which had been quite enough but, heh, why not go for the cheaper option).

Anyway, I've now had their confirmation email which says my 'Broadband Username" is XXXXXXXXXXXXXX@XXXXXX (ie. an email address), and that I should enter this into my router to connect to Broadband. Well now . . . . I got 'into' my router at about the 10th attempt (no obvious reason) and couldn't work out where on earth to enter this username. It's a load of gobbledegook to this nerd but I expect all other members understand every detail and will offer advice (which must be in words of less than one syllable please).

Meanwhile, I am still getting download speeds of some 14MB/second.

I expect it's a standard reply as if you were a new customer. I expect your router already has this information in it and is using it to connect you.

That's interesting Alan. We are with Plusnet and we have occasionally strayed over the 60GB allowance and have been duly hit in the pocket as a result - our son joining Netflix was the main culprit! It is useful to know they are prepared to be flexible on price and what you get for your money. I assume changing tariff hasn't resulted in a reduction in your download speeds?

Thanks Mick. I am sure you are right (thank goodness and you) because I have noticed no change in the loading speeds, down or up.

That partly answers David's comment but to say a bit more about that: I too was on the 60 GB limit deal when I rang Plusnet with my unrelated question. Having answered that question, he asked "anything else?". So I asked if there might be a better deal. He suggested the 'no limit deal' which was £4.50 a month cheaper provided I stayed with them for a year.

Having been happy with Plusnet for well over a decade, I said I would like to go on this new deal. I had to ask him formally to arrange this which he did on the spot and I got the confirmation email the next day.

We have never got near the 60GB limit but my wife now has an iPad so who knows?! I should add that we are not on their 'Broadband + phone' deal which I have never looked into.
