iDVD and NTSC format

I use iDVD to make DVDs and, of course, they are normally in PAL format which works fine on DVD players in the UK.

Now, I would like to burn a DVD (2 slideshows only) in the NTSC format so that it could be viewed by a friend in USA.To this end I've changed the Preferences in iDVD so that the project should be in NTSC and I've also made sure that the Project>Project Info window shows the format as NTSC. I then prepare the slideshows for a DVD.

The disc burning goes as expected. However, I end up with a disc which plays beautifully on my free standing DVD player which suggests strongly that it is in PAL format and won't play in the USA. Any comments and suggestions would be welcome.

I used to have a beautiful free-standing DVD player which would play virtually any format. Perhaps yours is one of those?

Got two DVD players, both a few years old, both have zero issues playing back NTSC discs on PAL TVs (conversion circuitry built in). Your player is probably the same.

Thank you both for your helpful responses. I'll send my NTSC DVD to a friend in the USA to see if his DVD player is as versatile as yours are. I'll try and remember to let you know the outcome.
