iPhoto Videos and AppleTV

Avatar Trevor Hewson
Having imported a number of photos and video clips from a still camera into iPhoto, these can be conveniently viewed as a slideshow, whereupon the videos will be played as they arise in sequence with the still photos.

However, when slideshowing the same event via AppleTV, only the stills are shown. In fact the video clips seem to be totally invisible when browsing an iPhoto library via AppleTV. Is there any way of overcoming this?

I'm using iPhoto 09, by the way (version 8.1.2)

Does Apple TV handle music videos and if so could you convert the videos in iPhoto to the same format?

Yes, any video in iTunes plays fine on the Apple TV. It's just that, when returning from a day out with a mix of stills and video clips, it's nice to be able to review what you have before bothering with any editing or converting. iPhoto does this beautifully so it's a shame that the Apple TV skips over the video clips.

Apple's documentation seems a little chaotic but, as a long shot, there is a rather hidden switch that may help. Assuming you're using iTunes 11, then under File->Home Sharing-> Choose Photos to... there is an "Include Videos" checkbox that needs to be checked.

My only other thought is whether your camera produces video using a Codec not supported by the Apple TV (but only by Mac OS)?
