iPad and Wi Fi

Avatar John Marriott
After I close the cover on my iPad 3 the Wi Fi connection i.e. the indicator goes off. When I re-open the cover the (fan) does not show indicating that the Wi Fi connection is not connected. In settings however the Wi Fi is showing connected! After about 10 seconds the 'fan' reappears and all is well. My wife, using the same router and an iPad 4 never loses the connection until she physically turns the the router connection off. Both machines are using the latest software update. Would welcome any suggestions.

I wouldn't have thought it unusual for any machine to take a few seconds to locate a wi-fi network and connect to it when woken from sleep or switched on. It may just be that the iPad 4 is a bit quicker at it.

background tasks like updating the "fan" condition to be on or off after re-waking used to be unimportant, but with faster machines, these tasks can get done faster. But making sure the connection is up is a primary task on wake, so it connects first and worries about telling you about it until the CPU has a spot of free time.
