Effective/economic use of Domain Name email route

Avatar John Nicholas
I have just acquired a Domain Name via “Easily”.

I have also set up 6 family/connected specific names (out of an allowance of 20) to precede @domain.co.uk in connection with mail forwarding to the email address at my ISP out of sight of the sender. I hear some of you say " he's catching up slowly...." Anyway, this much works fine.

However you might understand that we wanted to be able to send out emails from any of those 6 names as if they were coming from the domain named site, rather than the undisclosed ISP. It appears that Easily’s charge of £9 per year (plus Vat) is for one single email address and that to use 6 (or for that matter 20) sending names, incurs a like multiple yearly charge. I had not expected this ! Is this right ? Have I done something wrong ? Can I set up my Mail Accounts to get 6 sending names without incurring the multiple charge; if so then I need instruction ?

I'm not quite sure what you've set up or how but here's a basic idea of what should happen.

If on your Mac, each family member has their own user account, (or of course their own Mac) then they should set up Mail with their new email address and the incoming and outgoing server names of wherever your email is going (your ISP). It's also likely that your ISP will allow the use of "sub" mailboxes so each person only collects their own mail but how this is achieved varies from ISP to ISP

If however you all use the same user account on the Mac, then you can use more than one email address by entering them (Mail>Preferences>Accounts) separated by a comma and a space e.g. [undisclosed email], [undisclosed email], [undisclosed email] etc. When you start a new email, there will be a drop down list offering you a choice of all the addresses you've entered.

I too am somewhat confused what you've set up.

So let me try to clarify:

I think the confusion is might around how 'Easily' is setting up an email mail box with a your domain name.
It appears Easily offers a single 'Just Mail' mail box for £9 each.

I think what you have is a domain name and you want 6 people (email addresses) associated with this domain name. You want to be able to receive email and also send it from these email addresses?

If so, then 'Just Mail' is not your solution.

Sometimes your ISP allows you to associate your domain name directly with your 'ISP account', many 'decent' ISPs still do or allow you to upgrade your package to support this. PlusNet used to provide this, though now I think it's only available with their more expensive/legacy packages.

If your ISP does not and you don't want to change your ISP, you will need a third party provider that provides you with 'Email Hosting'. Along the lines of this for £20 per year supporting 10 mailboxes https://www.mediamarmot.com/website-hosting/. There are other companies that do the same, you'll need to look around. (Avoid GoDaddy all their options and forced selling are so confusing (even to me) it's not worth it).

Mick. Thank you for your unexpected and kind telecom yesterday.

Despite this I still can't get things working. Obviously I'm still doing something wrong / have not tweaked something.

Just to help things (NOT) emails from some of my email addresses to others of mine have been disappearing into the ether. Accessing webmail has not located them, and the ISP had maintenance work this morning which frustrated access to both webmail and to their support system. Even now email delivery is erratic and taking 1 hr to filter through when it does.

It is possible that my email to you today hasn't even reached you ?

Applecare say my query is beyond their technical expertise !! They emailed a useless web-link which took 2 hours to arrive, way outside the sensible progression of a phone resolution.

Repeated plea for your help !!
