heres a challenge....

Avatar Gordon Clyne
I got asked if it was possible to take a list of contacts from ......wait for it...... an excel spreadsheet running in vista on a PC and get it into the Mac address book on a mac mini running 10.7X

I'm thinking get it into numbers, save- export as a CSV, note the column headers, and import into contacts..... has anyone any tips or experience of having to rescue a PC user who thinks a spreadsheet is THE best place for contacts, or should I just get them psychiatric care?

anyone?

Just get them to export as CSV from Excel - you don't need to go into Numbers. Address Book import will pick up the column headers and show you which field from the CSV file will be imported into which field in Address Book. But…

In my experience you'll have issues like the CSV file having an entry as a full name e.g. Name: Gordon Clyne rather than First Name: Gordon, Last Name: Clyne as per Address Book. You either need some clever trickery in Excel or change it manually once in Address Book.

Don't worry Mick - I'm sure that Gordon would love to write a script to sort that out :)
