Is any member prepared to argue for a particular Mac application to carry on while the "hugely appreciated and advanced" Family Historian (PC only) remains off-limits without Parallels-Fusion-Bootcamp-VirtualBox and a copy of non-OEM Windows? (Crossover-Wine doesn't work with current versions of FH.)
We have a number of family history researchers within WaMug, and your responses are eagerly sought !
Thanks in advance.
The only FH program I have used is Reunion from Lester Productions. I would thoroughly recommend it. Their e-mail support has always been excellent on the few occasions I have called upon it.
I am using Mac Family Tree which is a good program, and another one I have used is iFamily for Leopard which I gave a short talk on a Dorchester some time ago
We are using an old version of Reunion (8), which we still find very good. The latest version (for Mac OS 10.5 or newer) is getting good reviews. However we see that Family Tree Maker Platinum for Mac is now available (for ditto) and gets good reviews too. We wonder if anyone has tried that yet? We are thinking of upgrading or changing. I am rather surprised that no mention has been made of Gramps, a free community based shareware project, which I have used since I ceased using Gene, an excellent Classic programme, which was to be rewritten for OSX, but unfortunately never made it.
Gramps is versatile, and seems to have most of the features of the commercial programmes, and must therefore be worth a trial, at least!
