Surplus Kit

Avatar John Nicholas
I have the following pieces of kit which are now surplus to requirements, and am not sure how to proceed. At this precise second, all in fine fettle. Do I sell them, donate them, or consign them to tip ?

Mac Mini (PowerPC) 40GB with power pack and Box. It is still loaded with OS 10.4.11 (and Start-up disc), Microsoft Office for Mac 2004 (with Disc), and many other apps. All my files removed, I hope, and HD free space 35-erased. (Reminder; this is pre-Intel)

Keyboard (Extended) & Mighty Mouse (both wired), and Box

Sony 17” Monitor

Iomega CD-RW Drive (with Solutions CD)

Belkin USB 2 7-port hub

Ixos Portable Stereo Speaker Cube approx. 7 cm for iPod /MP3 / Mac (Battery or USB power)

Seeking suggestions, offers, pleas for charity, or “get away with you” ?

Hi John,

I'll buy the lot for £30. Though you'd probably get double my offer if you put it all on ebay.

If all else fails go to the Bookyard website and fill in their form to sell old equipment to them. If they offer some money for any of the kit they will also pay carriage back to their office.

Martin ----thank you for the offer which I was minded to accept, as it avoids hassle with ebay or other outlet, and pleasing "her indoors" that the entire clutter and cables were to be gone, BUT see later..........

Derek ----- thank you also for the interesting suggestion, and although they would handsomely outbid Martin, the ease of disposal and looking after Wamug colleagues might have outbid pure money, BUT..........

A couple of months ago I had offered the Mini to a Mac minded friend for use by his child/children/next doors children. Belatedly, he has reversed his previous declination and intends (after a New Year's celebratory snifter) to take the Mini with keyboard & Mouse.

So soon my clutter should be reduced to the Monitor and other three items. What will "she" say when she spots cables still poking out from their hidey hole ?

I do not think that Bookyard would offer more money - after all they have to test and dismantle the items to use the parts as spares. They bought a broken 17" Apple screen from me, the electronics and display worked OK but the clear plastic strut at the back of the body had broken. I felt a lot better sending it to Bookyard than taking it to the tip.
