Saving attachments in Mail to iPhoto with OS 10.8

Avatar John Nicholas
Although an option appears to be provided to do this directly, Apple Support says that in practice it CANNOT be done. It goes on to say that they should be dragged and dropped individually from the attachment list onto the iPhoto icon in the Dock. BUT, this workaround does not work for me.

I have to save to desktop, then import to iPhoto. This long route despite the apparent direct route offered in the save dialogue.

Anybody else found the problem, and a quicker solution ? Or do we have to await a fix from Apple?

I have just tried to import a photo from mail to iPhoto and it didn't work.

Whilst the "Add to iPhoto" menu item doesn't work, dragging the displayed photo from the email to the dock icon does.

Yes it does but I find it a bit unwieldy to drag an opened photo (rather than the icon on the attachment list) onto the dock. Also I found that multiple attachments means multiple drag & Drops; tedious. Easier to "save all" to the desktop and then drag them as a group into iPhoto.

But it would be easiest if the "Save to iPhoto" option would actually work!

Also dragging the attachment directly into iPhoto and on a Folder or Album works as well.

Since Apple is aware of the bug, expect the issue to be fixed in a future update.
