Printing onto DVD's

Avatar Edward Laine
I recently acquired a Canon MG6250 multifunction printer. When I try to print directly onto a DVD the quality is awful and the ink never dries. Do I need to buy special DVD's for this? Has anyone else tried this? I have a call into Canon technical but I am not hopeful!

I think you do need special DVDs, although you could try preparing the surface by cleaning them with something to get them chemically clean. You probably also need special inks which don't dry by absorbtion into the surface. Good luck!

Yes, you can buy special discs suitable for inkjet printing. Have a look here:

HHB Professional Audio

HHB won't be the cheapest as they're aimed at professional studios. I've used the CDs before (probably about 300 of them) but recording through one of their professional audio machines rather than my Mac and didn't have one audio failure. Printing on an early Canon printer also worked perfectly. You'll see they do DVDs as well as CDs

Verbatim do a range of printable CDs and DVDs. I have used them with an Epson Printer I used to have. The reference number of the CDs is 43324. My current printer doesn't have the CD printing facility and as I have a couple or so left over, if you wish I can send them to you to try before you buy. They are CDs but the principle is the same.

Thanks for the response guys. I did speak to Canon technical services, the accent suggested they were in Eastern Europe rather than India, which makes a change. They could not give me an answer over the phone, but e-mailed back this morning to say the same thing you said. I suppose it should be obvious when you think about it, but nowhere in any of the online Canon manuals does it mention printable DVD's, it just says print directly onto a DVD. Thanks for you kind offer Lionel, but I will take Mick's advice and order from his contact as I need quite a few. Many thanks for your help.

Mick, many thanks for the tip about HHB Media. I ordered a bulk pack yesterday, it arrived this afternoon, and they work perfectly. Many thanks again.
