iCloud

Just saved a jpeg file in Preview to iCloud.
The question is:-
How do I access this file? I have tried every trick in my knowledge but without any result. Photo stream is on in all my devices and I am running Mountain Lion.

Could you explain a little more fully what you've done and how you've done it? It sounds as if you've opened a jpg file using Preview. How did you then "save" that to iCloud?

Hello Mick
More details:-
Decided to test iCloud with something which did not matter before I did something which did!
I simply opened a jpeg file in preview, modified it with some text then went to the edit triangle to the right of the file name and the options are Rename, move to iCloud etc.
I simply clicked on the move to iCloud and the image went from the screen.

I then went to my iPad and spent a few hours looking for the image. However, I think I may have solved the problem. After opening the MacBook I decided to open Preview and there was the image ready to be opened.
When I thought about this it seemed obvious, you need the app, in this case Preview, installed on the iPad before iCloud will function. Not totally convinced yet but perhaps someone with more experience than I have had with iCloud can convince me!

I can't test this in exactly the way that you have because I'm not yet running Mountain Lion. However, I think this is how iCloud should work:

With things like photo stream, contacts, iCal etc changes you make on any of your devices are sent to iCloud and then to all of your other devices. With individual files such as you are describing here, there is no automatic synchronisation across all devices. You don't say how you accessed this file on your laptop but my guess is you used a browser (Safari?) to access your iCloud account online and downloaded it to your laptop. Unless things have changed recently mobile devices cannot access the iCloud website so you have no easy access to “non-synchronising" files on these. If you try, instead of the iCloud website you are taken to a page which just offers to “setup iCloud on this device".

Hi Mick
Thanks for that. You ask how I accessed the file on my laptop. This was easy, I simply clicked on the preview icon in the dock and the file came up in a list format (with a grey background) showing the file name and type, ie jpeg. I then double clicked the file and it displayed immediately in preview.
