Hi,
Can anyone recommend a good application which I can use to build my family tree? I have tried MacFamily Tree and am totally confused.
John Marriott
I've started using MacFamilyTree and although the learning curve is quite steep, I have found it to be very good. Building complicated relationships can get difficult, but no more so than learning the software and how it works. I would say stick with it and build a simple tree at first, to find out how the software functions, as most of the family tree software (mac or PC) gets a bit of getting used to.
I still use Gene, which is a Classic application, hence its days are numbered, and I will soon have to cast around for a replacement. I must admit that I found it extremely easy to use and flexible. The author had an intention of bringing it into the world of OSX, and I will email him to ask if this is likely to happen. realistically though, I am pessimistic, and so would be very interested to hear John's conclusions when he has tried the three programmes mentioned. Please let us know!
Have you looked at http://www.macgenealogy.org/ ? This website appears to provide an up to date record of genealogy software for the mac.
I have used Reunion for many years and have recently upgraded to version 9, for Leopard Compatibility. I find it very capable and use it to produce my online tree. See: http://homepage.mac.com/trevorhewson/
I must admit though that I have no experience of other Genealogy programs so can't really say how it compares with the other offerings. However, if you have any particular queries about Reunion, please feel free to e-mail me directly (from the above website)
