This one is probably for Lionel but any other thoughts would also be welcome. Since slightly exceeding the 2GB free allowance - we were planning to use Dropbox to temporarily store files, images etc while we switched computers but uploaded too many files, it has not been possible to sync. or delete items from Dropbox. The icon on the menu bar has a red cross on it and signing on to the Dropbox a/c from another computer still doesn't allow items to be deleted or copied to that computer. The a/c is effectively frozen. I suppose they are hoping we will upgrade the account, which we are reluctant to do as we don't need the extra capacity on a permanent basis and I'm sure they make it hard to go back to a freebee account once you upgrade. Any thoughts on where we go from here?
I did leave a comment to say how wonderful Dropbox was and gained what seemed to be enough to put me back under the limit but alas it didn't unblock the account! Perhaps I need several Wamug friends to join after my recommendation - any volunteers?!
Lionel, I can drag them out of the Dropbox folder but no syncing takes place (the menu bar has a red cross instead of a green tick). However when I recheck the items that are in the Dropbox folder, the items appear to have been removed. Despite this the excess over the 2GB limit is not reduced or eliminated. I sent a query to the Help Desk early this week but have not had a reply so far.
David,
If you delete a file by clearing it from the dropbox file, this does not automatically reduce the memory occupied, because you have to remember that Dropbox can call up files which have been deleted in that way. To permanently delete it, you have to permanently delete the file, via the dropbox website, and I don't think you have been doing this. This article from the Dropbox help centre menu explains ....
Thanks Steve for your reply. No, I hadn't been deleting files in the way that you mention and will keep the details of how to do it. Unfortunately before I read your reply, I had signed up for paid space (after checking that there is no minimum period after the first month), so it has cost me £6.60 but it unlocked it straight away. At least it is sorted and I know more about how Dropbox works!
