Making videos

Avatar Michael Corgan
I have been asked by a friend who is even less knowledgeable than I am, to recommend a suitable video camera - for them to make videos for distribution. presumably on the web, but also there is a possibility that some may be shown on small, American style, television stations.

As I know nothing about making or preparing videos I would like to discuss the requirements with someone with some experience in this area. Budget is a problem too! One question that was thrown at me this weekend was if it is necessary for the chosen video camera to record using TV standards - i.e. NTSC or PAL in view presumably of the hope that the end results will be broadcast on TV. My guess is that this would not apply to videos but that is one of the questions to answer!

Hoping for help!

Hi Michael get your friend to have a go by using the video option on a mobile phone (if he has one) first to make a movie before he goes to the expense of a true video camera, it may give him an idea on how it works.

Thanks for the idea Brian. However this friend intends to make professional videos for local churches, having worked in a local TV studio and seen an opportunity to set up a business. So I would guess that they have something pretty serious in mind, albeit that they are strapped for cash!

If this link works - -take a look at this advert

Olympus advert

A way to get started the use of it will require discipline and scene planning - but hey the chap is interested in making pro movies.
