PDF Problems

I'm having a problem with one of my customers regarding pdf e-mail attachments. They are only small. 100kb or so.

So, I send a pdf file as an attachment to one of my customers, who uses a PC. He opens it and all is well. It looks ok on screen and prints out ok. He then sends it to his client. But the client can only see a blank pdf. On a separate occasion another client only sees part of the pdf.

If I send directly to the client there is no problem. Other times, with other clients, there is no problem.

It's seems pretty obvious that the problem is at his end. But I just wonder if anybody else has encountered similar.

I did have an issue with InDesign v2 a while back. If I used the Mac print to pdf, a few Windows users could not read it so I had to use the File>Export option instead, then all was well. This only affected output from InDesign - all other programs were fine with the Mac print method.

Get the guy to save the PDF to his computer and then return it to you. That way you will see what is happening to the attachment, which seems to be where the problem lays.

This is interesting.

Mick: I sometimes use the Mac's inbuilt pdf function if I want just a quick pdf proof, but usually I print through the print dialogue box which utilises Acrobat Distiller. I usually follow the quidelines published by 'pass4press' http://www.pass4press.com/cgi-bin/wms.pl/416. Three interesting downloads if you've got time to wade through them.

Terry: Interestingly, I had already got the guy to do as you mentioned. On the first occasion it came back as sent. i then sent it to the client direct and it was fine. On the second occasion, it came back to me with even more stuff missing. But I'm not sure whether he wrote either of them to his own computer or just forwarded them. To be fair the chap at the other end is a complete novice to all matters computer related.
