Time machine Backups

Avatar Lionel Ogden
Without going into all the details, after reinstalling Lion I find that I cannot access the necessary Time Machine backups to enable me to bring my Home folder up to date. I can see them, but the Restore Button is greyed out. It seems as though the action of reinstalling the operating system has created a "new" computer, even though I use the same user name and password as before. I thought this was the way to do it. "Come home Super Duper clones. All is forgiven".

Any thoughts anyone

I was hoping that someone more knowledgeable would get back to you on this Lionel but, from my limited experience, creating an account with the same name and password is not enough for the MacOS to accept you as the same user.

So, instead of creating a 'new' user on your newly Lion-ised Mac, you need to import the existing user account from a time machine backup. I think I used the migration assistant to do this.
