Mirror Agent

Avatar Alan Cox
I am having occasional trouble shutting down my MacBook Pro (OS 4.10.11). When I try to shut down it 'times out saying that the "Mirror Agent" is in use and shut down has timed out. To shut down choose Mirror Agent from the finder and quit it'.

Using Google, I have found that Mirror Agent is in Activity Monitor but it doesn't seem to be an application in the usual sense and I cannot see how to close it. The built in Help pages are no use and there seems to be no agreement in the various web based discussions on what to do to achieve shut down. Some claim it's to do with iDisk, others say not but seem to think it's to do with synchronisation.

I fiddle around with the on/off button, the Force Quit process and generally shout angrily at the machine until it eventually gives up and I can go to bed. Please can someone tell me what I should do?

I have been doing a lot of video editing of late but I cannot see why that should cause my machine to have a fit of the sulks especially when I am offering it a rest.

Thanks Terry. Sounds an easy method and I'll give it a try next time I have the problem, and report back. I have to say that I am not overly optimistic because of what has been said by some of the contributors to relevant fora (posh word, eH?).
