IPod Touch Internet connect problem

Avatar John Marriott
I have 3rd gen touch running ios5.1 and have lost the iinternet connection. In the network settings the Wi-Fi is turned ON and I have a good signal strength as indicated by the 'bar' symbol. However if I select the right hand arrow on the network to confirm the settings there is no information in any of the boxes, i.e. no ip address, no subnet mask, no router and no DNS numbers.
I have reset the iPod 4times today and checked the MAC address in the router - all normal. My question is this. Why do I get the symbol showing I am connected yet I cannot gain access to the Internet?

You could try to Renew Lease (this means contact the router again to get all the missing information). If that doesn't work, use Forget This Network and then set it up again by entering the network name and password.

PS Don't forget to upload a photo here (see last bulletin or Chris' post Avatar)

Thanks for the reply Mick
Still no joy after trying your suggestions. However what I do have now is an ip address which is not my provider's address.
It is 169.254.122.220 and the subnet mask is 255.255.0.0 again this is not the same as my settings when I access my network settings on the iMac!

Hi John

Addresses that start 169 are self assigned - it can't find the router! Set it up manually:

IP address 192.168.0.125
Subnet 255.255.255.0
Router and DNS both 192.168.0.1

Thanks Mick, I have been trying to set it up manually but it won't let me enter the information. Do I need to set anything else prior to setting up?
