Cannot get any sound out of my external speakers from my Mac Book Pro mid 09 intel core 2 duo (lion)
I am using a mini stereo jack to the headphone socket. Would a mono jack work?
When my mini stereo jack stopped working on my Mac Mini, I gave up trying to make it work and bought a Lindy USB 2.0 Audio adapter. It has two sockets a Mic input and Speaker out and it works like a dream. £11.55 on Amazon. Can recommend it.
Graham: whatever you do, never use a mini-cd disc with a slot-loading CD/DVD player -- in which they get stuck. They are designed for tray-loading players, and (almost) never contain Mac software.
YES MICK I have tested 3 sets of speakers powered and not.
NO EUAN I would never do that.
I got bored and plugged 2 sets of speakers in at once USB and earphones.
HOORAY MAC is working as it should. Still nothing from the Lindy USB. who cares.
Glad you've got it sorted now. But just for the record, as I remember, I just plugged the Lindy into a USB port. Plugged the lead from my speakers into the output on the Lindy, then went to 'Sound' in System Preferences and under Output I found the option of Internal Speakers and "C-Media USB Headphone Set". Choosing the latter, I found my speakers worked with no problem. However, I have found that since installing Lion, I have to reset this setting every time I restart the Mini. But then I hardly ever switch it off, so it's not a problem.
Incidently, I don't recall receiving a CD with my Lindy and have no idea where the "C-Media USB Headphone Set" option came from. Might have been from other bit of kit I've installed in the past.
