Java Flash Player versions with G5 Mac running OS 10.4.11 (PPC)

Avatar John Elton-Wall
Recently have been unable to use BBC iPlayer and get notification that later version of Java is required. It seems that Java 10.1.102.64 is the latest suitable release available for use with Mac OS 10.4.11. (I currently have Flash Player 10.0.32.18). However, the suitable release seems to be available only from the archived Java releases. The notes/cautions on the use of these archived versions are rather off-putting. Has anyone else had this issue and/or been bold enough to use earlier software.

I can watch iPlayer on the Laptop, but a larger version of Inspector Montalbano is to be preferred!

Thanks if anyone can comment.

John

Hi I'm a bit confused 'Java Flash Player'? There is Java and there is Adobe Flash Player. But there is not Java Flash Player.

Assuming we are talking about Adobe Flash Player 10.1.102.64. Just because it is archived and not supported by Adobe should not be a problem for you since it was probably the last version which supported Mac OS X 10.4.

However, I've just tried to install from the bundle Adobe provides and am not seeing any Adobe Flash plugin getting installed in /Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder so am not sure if the installer is working correctly.

However, if you can get the Adobe Flash plugin files and put them into /Library/Internet Plug-Ins (I got a copy from another old Mac here), they do work even on a Power Mac G4.

Thanks for the reply Martin on the Flash Player. I cannot think why I added Java! I see from the paper on which I had jotted down the various software versions that I wasn't being daft at that point. However, I'm fortunately too old in the tooth to remain embarrassed for long.

I'll have a go at following up on your suggestions. Again many thanks.
