Does anyone out there use the Smith Micro Spring Clean application? I keep getting an 'E' mail stating how good it is.
Any advice would be welcome.

In normal circumstances the software is not required as OSX has it's own "sorting out" facility built in, which is run automatically in the small hours. If you have a laptop or regularly shut down your computer at night, it is sometimes worth running the freeware application MacJanitor (http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html). Resetting permissions is sometimes required as well, but this can be achieved with your install CD/DVD.

I also like the idea of regularly cleaning my system, but don't want to leave my Mac on all night to accomplish the tasks. You can (I'm reliably informed) go into Terminal and weave some Unix magic to reset the times of when the mac does these housekeeping activities. (Chrontab, apparently, for the technically minded). Much too complicated for me, though.I have found a wonderful, FREE application called OnyX, which can be found here: (http://www.titanium.free.fr/index_us.html) It is now one of my 'can't live without' apps and I use it to accomplish all manner of cleaning and maintenance on my system on a weekly basis. It is not the only program out there that does this, but I like the interface. Others are Macjanitor, Cocktail, etc.. all do similar jobs. Try some out - you may like them. And they do keep those temporary files accumulating to disc-clogging proportions.
