Mobile wi-fi dongle

Avatar Lionel Ogden
Has anyone had experience of one of these gadgets often called mi-fi. It is the sort of gadget to which you can connect a number of devices rather than the more limited dongle that you plug into the USB port on a laptop.

Most of the mobile networks seem to offer them now and assuming coverage is OK are there any preferences between suppliers?

Annie from Salisbury has - not sure she's on here very often but you could mail her. I believe hers is with 3.

They have the advantage of being usable with iPads etc. that don't have a USB port but they are still at the mercy of mobile network 3G coverage. Before choosing a supplier, if you can predict where you'd use it most, try to check out their coverage there. Don't rely on their coverage maps you need to borrow a phone on their network and you need coverage to be 3G. If it's only 2G the phone will work fine but your data transfer will be like the old dial-up!
