Deleting 'E' mails before they open

Now that I am a full member of the lion club I would like to know how I can delete 'E' mails from the new mail
without opening them first. For example if I select an 'E' mail from the list it automatically opens fully to reveal the content which I may not wish to view.

If you go to mail preferences and open viewing and check the box marked classic layout you can delete before opening

Thanks Douglas, it seems those clever guys at Apple forgot to programme a method within the new mail system.
