Broadband speed

Avatar Graham Whent
My broadband speed has been dropping for the last year. Last week it dropped to 914kbps . At last weeks
meeting it was suggested I wired it direct (ethernet), changed my wireless frequency or broadband provider.
I am on free broadband with a £6.99 phone package. I called Talk Talk they did some tests then sent down
an engineer from Bath on saturday he lifted the profile no charge. I now have 1,3072 kbps My Lion update
that wanted 2 hours was done in 8 minutes. There computer monitors your line stability any caps it if there is any fluctuation. Can only be lifted manually. Hope this might help someone else with the same problem.

I had a similar problem some time ago which was caused by a faulty modem which was intermittently dropping the connection several times a minute. In fact the loss and recovery was so quick it was not noticeable in general use, but the line checker noticed it and dropped the speed to 128k. When I contacted my ISP (Plusnet) they detected the problem and explained what was happening. The cure was a replacement modem router. In this case it didn't need a technician to visit.

The ADSL line checks are very sensitive to breaks in connection and this is why you are recommended to leave your modem router switched on. However, very occasionally switch it off leave it for a few seconds and then switch on again and this will allow the ADSL system to find the best speed for your line.
