Image Capture failure

I got an EpsonSX525WD 'All-in-One' printer, scanner and copier a few months ago and it has worked perfectly well in all functions. However, two days ago the scanning function failed.

It uses Image Capture on my iMac. This appeared OK on the monitor, and it did do the Preview scan but then the definitive scan managed but about two inches at the top of an A4 sheet and that was that. I have got Photoshop Elements (an ancient version) and that works fine so the scanning machine is OK (it also copies and prints just fine).

It's not a crisis but should I try to reinstall Image Capture from the DVD Snow Leopard install disc (I can find only one so I assume the software is on that) and is this a touch dicey? There may be other scanning software that's worth a try in case Photoshop E. fails as well. The only one I'm aware of is Vuescan but that has been given a terrible drubbing by some guy who has tried it.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE IGNORE THAT LAST POST – I now think that the failure was human error in that i did not correctly 'marquee' what I wanted to scan. Well, I hope that's the explanation. And take it from me, I am blushing with embarrassment from top to toe.
