Java Update
Alan Cox
Normally I am comfortable with Software Update but it has just suggested updating Java with the most terrifying 'explanation' of what it's all about and what to expect and inviting a look at a website. It says:"Java for Mac OS X 10.4, Release 6 delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 and later. This release updates J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_13 and Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_16.
For more details on this Update, please visit this website: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307051
This installer guides you through the steps necessary to update Java. To get started, click Continue."
My Safari cannot find the website and I am uncertain at what point do I "click Continue to get started"? and is it all worth while anyway? I am still on OS 10.4.11 (sic!) and see no real advantage in going to Leopard except that every piece about Mac OS is about Leopard as though it's even better than sllced bread!
[And while I am here. I know there is a way of entering URLs that are 'clickable' because Terry told us in one of his ever useful contributions to this Forum. Trouble is that I have forgotten how to do it and cannot find what Terry told us to do. It would be useful (to me anyway) to have some permanent guidance somewhere on the site on how to do this and other things such as italicising, making bold, quoting etc. Maybe it's second nature to HTML wizards but us ordinary mortals need a helping hand. Any chance, please?]
