iPad Mail not receiving

Avatar Roy Rainford
I can send emails on my iPad (old model) via my local wi-fi network but can't receive emails. When I select the iPad inbox the message is "Checking for Mail" but nothing appears. It connects very quickly with the web. The IP address and DHCP settings on the iPad tally with my desktop machine. Any suggestions for a solution? The strange thing is that last week whilst away using my Sister's network the iPad would receive emails but wouldn't send them!!

The IP address and DHCP settings would affect whether the iPad would connect to your network - which it does - and not specifically your mail. Did you alter anything while away? The likely reason you couldn't send while away was that your ISP's outgoing server would not accept mail coming down your sister's broadband line, guessing she's not with the same ISP as you. For that you need an ISP-independent server e.g Google.

One thought - is Mail on your iMac set to "remove mail from server straight away"? If so, there will be no mail for your iPad to collect unless it connects before the iMac.

Thanks Mick. I did alter something whilst away when I was unable to send emails but can't remember what!!! I thought I would sync again on returning home and settings would automatically reset. When I first opened the iPad the settings appeared automatically so is there a way of repeating this operation? A little more info: Mail on my iMac is set as you say but the iMac Mail is not open and has not been opened to receive any mail when I try to receive on the iPad. I tried to receive on the iPad before booting the iMac.
If I leave the inbox open on the iPad it eventually says, "cannot get mail- pop3.toucansurf.com is not responding. Verify that you have entered the correct account information in Mail settings." Well as far as I can see the account information is the same as the iMac. Can you say what I should double check.

Just your user name and password Roy - you have the name of the server.

Many thanks again Mick. It was a password error which has been changed and the iPad is 'up and running'!
