10.6.7 Font embedding in Acrobat .pdf files bug

Avatar Euan Williams
A widely-discussed bug has turned up relating to font embedding in .pdf files when these are created using MacOS X 10.6.7. The problem also affects Flash creation and use. Pre-conditions are:
MacOS 10.6.7
"OpenType Postscript" (.otf) font in use in the file to be made into a .pdf using the MacOs .pdf writing mechanism or Flash file
The application opening the file is Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro.

Apple's Preview isn't affected, nor are .pdf files produced using the independent export options in inDesign and Quark.

Options are to revert to 10.6.6 or not use "OpenType Postscript" fonts when making .pdfs for Acrobat Reader. While font conversion utilities are available the best solution seems to be to revert to 10.6.6 by archive-install and update.

To establish what format of font you may be using, open FontBook, navigate to Preview > Show Font Info > Kind.
