Bonjour

Avatar Graham New
I have read that Bonjour allows computers to talk to each other. I can't make it work although I have turned on file sharing which says that others computers on the network can communicate. I can't see any instructions on actually making it work (The Apple site just says what a wonderful thing it is)

So please, what steps do I have to go through to get my laptop (new Macbook) to talk to my iMac G5 and vice versa)
(both running OSX 4.10)

in OSX 10.4.10 or thereabouts:
1. start both Macs
2. link with preferably Firewire, but can use ethernet
3. go to file sharing preference pane on both macs and enable file sharing
4. Look for the sentence: "Computers on your local network can access your computer at: GrahamNews-Macbook.local" or similar.
5. your Mac will look for the other one and ask for user name and password. Enter this for that other Mac, ie. the one you are connecting TO!
6. The other Mac will appear on your desktop.

Only got so far I'm afraid. I can get to the box 'Registered User 'which asks for user name and password but reject all attempts.
In the Guest Box I can get to a 'Drop Box' but I can't open that as I do not have the necessary permissions.

Where am I going wrong? How do become a Reistered User?
