Shared Folder

Avatar Mark Ford
All of a sudden my Finder windows are headed 'Shared Folder' written in white on grey.
What on earth have I done and what am I sharing with?
Is it something to do with my external backup HD I wonder?

I would guess that you have somehow turned on File sharing. Go to System Preferences, Sharing and make sure that File Sharing is unchecked.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Trevor, I have looked there and find File Sharing is on and the Shared Folders are:
Macintosh HD
Mark Ford's Public Folder
iTunes Music
test's Public Folder

I don't know how they got there & I have unchecked File Sharing and it is now Off but by doing that have I compromised my ability to use the Public Folder of MobileMe to leave files for others to collect & to leave files for me?

No, it shouldn't affect your MobileMe public folder at all. As I understand it, the File sharing option in Preferences allows selected folders on your Mac to be shared with others on your local network (e.g. your wireless LAN) - I have used it to transfer files to and from a laptop for example. Individual folders can be set to share or not to share via the Get Info panel (Select the folder then select Get Info from either the File menu or the contextual menu, or type Cmd-I).
