"Universal" airprint compatibility?

Avatar Euan Williams
AirprintHactivator for OSX appears to be solving the problem of printing from iPhones etc. to Mac-linked printers. There is a Windows version too.

Look here, for access and discussion: AirPrint Hacktivator

Seems to only be good for 10.6.5 - at least that is one interpretation of the message I get when I instal it:
'It appears as if you are not running OSX 10.6.5 Are you sure you should proceed?'
I am running 10.6.6 & I am not sure so I didn't.
Anyone tried?

I believe they ran into trouble with Apple for including some Apple copyright code but have now removed it and renamed the app without the H - Airprint Acktivator. It's on version 1.1.2 and is available from here It specifically mentions 10.6.5 AND 10.6.6

Yes - Airprint Acktivator works on 10.6.6 with an iPad, but not with a iPhone 3G (perhaps not surprisingly)

Is the iPhone using the latest version of iOS? I believe it was that which brought the Airprint facility.

You need 4.2 IOS on both phone and iPad and iPod touch for an app to take advantage of airprint, AND 10.6.6 .... AND an airprint aware printer, OR shared printer on an airprint aware mac.

My iPhone 3G actually does have iOS 4.2.1, despite which it does not show a print option for a photo, whereas the iPad does. Is this another ploy to persuade me to buy a new iPhone?

Airprint Activator seems to work on my printer, or should I say "tries to work...". My printer is a Hewlett Packard Photosmart all-in one with a separate photo paper tray. It is connected to my iMac via my network router. The printer itself is not airprint activated but I have Airprint Activator installed on the iMac. When I click on a photo on my iPod touch v4 and select Print, the printer whirrs into action and the photo paper tray advances, but I then get an error message on the printer saying that there is a paper size mismatch. Unfortunately there is no where in this particular print routine where one can select the paper type or size. Any ideas anyone?
