iPhoto 11 Performance and Stability

First off, I'm not sure whether this should refer to iPhoto 9. Anyway, it's the latest version, introduced with iLife 11.

I was thinking of making this my first Mac App Store purchase, but am concerned by reports about slow speed and stability problems, even after a couple of updates. See for example here

Has anyone got any experience of using the latest iPhoto with a reasonably large photo library (mine is approaching 18,000 photos)

I am running iPhoto 11 with only 2,300 photos on but I am not having any problems with it
