The late David Weber
David Moon
It is very sad to report that one of our longest serving members, David Weber died in the early ours of Sunday Dec. 12 after an eighteen-month battle with cancer. He was eighty five but, slender and athletic, looked and behaved like someone in their early sixties, still, this summer, sailing his boat Sarita with his neighbour in Portland Harbour, overlooked by the delightful home he shared with his wife Sara, where they hosted memorable Wamug events. A charming quiet spoken American long settled in England as the perfect Guardian reading Englishman, David had a most interesting life as a journalist, written and the spoken word, in both English and Spanish including The Voice of America. On the wall of his home there’s a wonderful photo of a young David interviewing John Lennon. In retirement he continued to produce a spoken newsletter for the blind, which of course he produced on his Mac. He was Mac enthusiast through and through and had one of the first Apple Mac Plus’ in Dorset and always kept up to date. He was frustrated when he could not get his iPad nor iPod Touch to work correctly on the Hospice Wi-Fi broadband, though his Mac Book Pro managed rather better, but still could not send emails. We have promised to help the Hospice resolve this for future patients. David’s natural charm, gentle smile and interest in people immediately put everyone at their ease, he made you feel good about yourself. He will be greatly missed.
