iMovie & still frames

I have used iMovie 3 to create a series of still frames from some footage shot on our camcorder. I want to eventually use these as illustrations in a document which will be mainly text.
However I have found that the images are slightly cut down in that the peripheral areas are lost, after saving them as Jpeg images and then opening them in Preview. I cannot see any of the the Preview prefs. settings are causing this to occur. In the menu I have used Edit→create still frame, added the frame to the timeline and then File→save frame as JPEG.
Any thoughts on overcoming this problem, as in this case the full image is important?

Just to let anyone interested know that this problem was resolved when I used iMovie HD, which I had on another computer, so I guess it was an issue just with the earlier versions.
