Little Red Number on Ical Icon on dock

Something had been bugging me for weeks. A little red number had appeared in my iCal icon on the Dock. Try as I might, I could't find out what it was or where it came from. Then after much searching, I found I was not alone:

It was then that I remembered that a friend, while playing with his new Android smart phone had, without knowing, sent a date to meet-up from his Google calendar.
