I was pleased to discover that the latest version of this excellent scanning software will scan from my HP Photosmart all in one printer/scanner which is connected to my network. Previously it would only scan from a USB connected scanner.
I agree that Vuescan is worth considering. It saved my outdated Canonscan 35mm slide scanner from being sold off cheaply last year when I found that Canon no longer support it with a driver.
As Roy will confirm, Vuescan is a powerful piece of software that recognises a multitude of scanners and allows you a good deal of control over their scanning. There is a free version, and a better (and not really expensive) pro version. I thoroughly recommend it too!
