Quicktime X Compatibility

Avatar Trevor Hewson
I use the Quicktime export facility of iMovie HD to produce video clips for inclusion on my website. Every so often my PC friends complain that they can't view the clips and I have to put them to the inconvenience of downloading yet another update to their Quicktime player. So it appears that Quicktime is not in the habit of producing backward compatible .mov files.

So, my question is, with Snow Leopard and Quicktime X, will my video clips be viewable by anybody else? I just looked at the Apple website and the downloadable free Quicktime players for both Mac and PC are still Quicktime 7, hence my concern.

An alternative may be to use an application such as Mpeg Streamclip from www.squared5.com to convert your video clips to a format such as MPEG4 which should be viewable on both Quicktime and Windows media player.
