Slideshow in iphoto

I am preparing a slideshow in iPhoto'09 and have put the images in sequence at the top of the 'play' window.
I then adjusted the settings to give a slow dissolve on all slides. However whilst the majority of dissolves work smoothly several, perhaps four, jump quickly to the next slide. I have clicked 'Fit the slideshow to the music'.
Any thoughts on why some slides don't dissolve slowly? This didn't happen in iPhoto'08.
