Epson DX4800

Having just downloaded and installed the latest drivers from the Apple web site my printer no longer works. It has an error message. Error: /Library?Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Ccontents/MacOS/rastertoescpll failed Has anybody any ideas as to what this means or where to go to get help

Doug: the devil is in the detail. Are you using Snow Leopard or Leopard?

Since Jaguar, Apple have increasingly used CUPS (Common Unix Printing System) which has many advantages (including sandboxing for security). Snow Leopard is supposed to download drivers automatically for printers when required, though I haven't tried this...

Try the Epson website for their latest drivers and see how you get on.

If you want to remove the "old" drivers from your library you will need to be careful what you remove, and back it up with a note about where the files were removed from so you can restore the status quo.

Thanks for your help Euan, I am running Snow Leopard and downloaded the latest drivers via software update. Before installing the last update everything was working alright. But since the update no printing. The Epsom web site gives no new drivers except for scanning

This may be totally irrelevant, but for what it's worth ...
Soon after switching to a new Mac Mini our RX640 appeared to die. I chatted via the Epson website to a technician who assured me that it would need expensive repairs. As a last throw of the dice I left it disconnected from both the Mac and the power supply for 24 hours before waking it up. It has worked perfectly ever since

I have found out that if I delete the printer in in print & fax in system preferences and add it again it works for that session of use.
