Wireless Mouse

Avatar Roy Rainford
My Apple wireless mouse recently packed up - well ended up in pieces after being dropped on the floor!! It was the old type without scroll wheel and ready for replacement anyway. Does anyone recommend a particular wireless mouse? I see the Apple wireless Mighty Mouse gets poor ratings by some users.

I had one for a year and then the scroll ball stopped working and would only scroll up, tried all methods recommended for cleaning without success. Kept on using it without scroll facility. I wouldn't buy another one.

I also have a mighty mouse, which stopped working after a while. I followed the Apple instructions for cleaning it, but that does involve complete disassembly. It will also need to be glued back together. All mice with a trackball will need to be cleaned at some point, so it depends how comfortable you are in taking things apart. In all other respects the mighty mouse does what it says on the tin. I have no problems with it.

Thanks Doug and Tony for your comments which tally with those I have seen in reviews.

I have used a Mighty Mouse since August '06 and it hasn't ever been a problem - so thats almost every day for more than 3 years.
Might be worth waiting - I saw a rumour earlier this month that there is a new one on its way http://tinyurl.com/yaptjqz

I have also used a Mighty Mouse for some years now without upset. Another one I use with my laptop is a Logitech Bluetooth mouse. This also seems fine although it does not have all the facilities of the Mighty Mouse eg horizontal scrolling.

Thanks Mark and Lionel for the comments. I will wait hopefully for a new one to appear.

The problem seems to always be with the pea ball. Generally this is a matter of grease from fingers picking up dirt.
Solution (apart from keeping small fingers away until they have washed their hands) is to disconnect the mouse, and rub the pea ball around on a soft cloth for a while. This transfers the grubsomeness to the cloth.

My magic mice all work fine, and have not caused any problems. Enjoy!

The new mouse has arrived - cool.
No little ball to get mucky.

Thanks Mark. I will look at that.
