Time Capsule

Avatar Mark Ford
Anyone know why Time Capsule is being sold cheaply by Solutions? £99 inc
Its 500GB Single Channel
Is this an old version - I haven't been paying attention?

Yes - Computer Warehouse had a similar offer on the old ones. If you don't "need" the new features I think this is a good buy.

Thanks Mick - I have forgotten what I once might have known but does one need a separate modem in order to use a Time Capsule?

I'm pretty sure the time capsule will not connect you to the internet but it can be used to either create or extend (an existing) wireless network. Comes into its own (assuming 500GB is big enough for you) if you have more than one machine using Time Machine.

With Time Capsule do you need Airport Express or will it work without it. At the moment I only have a wired router will i need to go wireless

Re: Time Capsule

I believe the old Time Capsule will work with either Airport or Airport Express whilst the new one will work with both, intelligently selecting the fastest speed each individual computer can handle.

Doug - you can connect your router to the TC by ethernet and let the TC set up a wireless network for you.

The old time capsule has four ethernet ports upto 1000 Mbs and can work as an Airport Basestation. However it is not a Broadband 'modem'

You can connect it to your wired network and backup both wired and wireless systems. It will work with _all_ Airport standards, however the system will slow down to the slowest 'standard' if you have a mixed network of Airport connected systems.
