Are you using Adobe Photoshop? If so, use the File - Automate - Contact Sheet II command. You can also access it from Adobe Bridge from the Tools - Photoshop menu.
If you are using iPhoto, then use File - Print (or Cmd-P) then choose Contact sheet from the Themes. It then gives you several tweaking options.
Thank you Tony, I didn't express myself clearly. What I meant was which is the cheapest program to use. I've installed iPhoto 4 from a CD, which refuses to work on the grounds that 'the program might be incomplete or damaged'. It is an Apple CD 'for systems without a DVD drive', and I installed it using Pacifist. I have got a DVD drive but, using Pacifist, I successfully installed iMovie 4 from the same CD, which works perfectly.
You can print multiple photos on one sheet in iPhoto (at least you can in iPhoto 08).
In the main window select all the photos you want to print by holding down the command key (apple key) as you select.
Go to the file menu and select Print.
In the choices panel the side of the Print dialogue box choose Contact Sheet.
When the new window opens, use the Columns slider at the bottom to adjust the size of the images.
Then click print
