iPhoto Library

Avatar Michael Corgan
The iPhoto Library, in the Pictures Folder on my marf drive has never been used - I don't use iPhoto at all. However, yesterday it showed that it was 7.5Mb. I trashed it and a new one was created by iPhoto - of the same size. But the folder is empty!

Today, before sending this query, I re-checked and it was down to 145Kb! Trying to open it brought up a message that there was no link to iPhoto (or wwords to that effect,) and I was offered the chance of recreating the link, Having done that this empty folder is now up to 486 Kb.
Has anyone any ideas as to how the forlder grew to the 7.5Mb in the first place, and why, having been recreated at the same size, it has now shrunk and then grown a little?

typo! for 'marf' read 'main', and of course, there is only one 'r' in folder!

When iPhoto starts up it creates the folder if one doesn't exist. If you trash the folder and never startup iPhoto the folder will not reappear.

Quite a mystery for non geeks. [I dont mean you Terry!]
I created 4 new empty libraries. Each one ended up being 8.2Mb. I guess they were bigger than Michael's because they contained some data about the 22 MobileMe galleries I have.
Interestingly I could watch them build in size but I had to be quick!
They started at between 236Kb & 284Kb rose through 372Kb to finish up at 8.2 Mb.
Something very private is going on behind the scenes and I won't enquire further.

Right Click on the iPhoto Library -> Show Package Contents.

The biggest file of 7.8 Mb appears to be associated with a 'ThemeCache' which I assume is associated with the book themes you can have with iPhoto...

Ah! In iPhoto '09 there are 6 [5 new] Themes for the slideshow function as well.
