Mac Expo - Live or decidingly off colour?

Avatar Eleanor Spenceley
Is it me or is the exhibitor list looking anaemic?

No Apple, Adobe. Lots of small companies I've not heard of...

I'm not sure it's worth going this year, have I missed something that should be unmissable?

Off colour by the look of it. A bit late for any significant changes I would guess.
I am going on Saturday - I had assumed that Apple would be there - as my kids used to say "That's pants!"
Ah well.

I know its more environmentally friendly to travel by train, but sadly, if two or more travel together, the car is still cheaper. So if you are thinking of going up to the Mac Expo by car, we have found that the Kings Mall Car Park in Glenthorne Road Hammersmith on the A315 is a good choice. Stick the road in your TomTom and it'll take you there no problem. (You haven't got a TomTom? Get one. They're great.)

Then if its dry, a nice walk up to Olympia. If its wet, its only two stops on the bus.

Getting out of Hammersmith can be a bit tricky at times, but after a few hours of Olympia, you can put up with anything.

No, we won't be going this year. After last year we were so fed up with blasted iPod trivia, that we'd rather not bother.

I want to see Macs, Mac compatible hardware and Mac software demos, not clowns showing of their dance moves in Nike trainers.

Euan and I went up in an environmentally friendly manner, Megatrain, at an amazing £4.50 return for both of us, plus a similar amount for the tube (for which it is well worth while to get an Oyster Card, even for the occasional trip to Town). Some chaos on the tube delayed our arrival, and the exhibition itself was rather disappointing. However, this could have been in the jaundiced eye of the beholder; the Computer Warehouse leaflet claimed it to be "Bigger and Better", so maybe I missed something). Microsoft were there, but the Apple presence was constrained to their delivering a couple of (good) presentations.

I certainly would have opted out this year if I had had to pay full price on the train.

It's worth keeping Megatrain in mind though ( http://www.megabus.com/uk/timetables/index_megatrain.php ) provided that you are prepared to book early. It is a useful successor to the old Bournemouth Travel Club, which used to offer cut price fares, and a regular, and very entertaining and self opinionated, newsletter.

I can only agree- without Apple and Adobe it was a bit sparse. Many of the 'special deals' were either not special enough or stuff I'd bought already (I'd bought three HDs and Leopard this week anyway!!). There were some interesting presentations though (VMWare's one on Fusion was so good, together with the sales pitch on their stand, that I ended up buying it!) the rather flat Microsoft presentation on Office 2008 was informative. Travelling up was a pain though (no District or Circle line AND a bus between Petersfield and Pompey). At least there wasn't the profusion of iPod tat this year (and that's speaking as a nano owner!).
