MacBook Pro unresponsive

Avatar Rick Churchill
While scrubbing through and taking screenshots of a Quicktime video the screen of my MacBook suddenly exhibited thin horizontal lines through the still image, no mouse arrow and unresponsive keyboard and trackpad.
On closing the lid the computer will not sleep. Should I remove the power cord and hope it switches off when the battery gets really low or should I take it apart and remove the battery connector?
I can’t think of what else to do.

SOLVED
I leaned on the power button for several seconds and it switched off.
Whew!!

I trust that you restarted your computer on "Safe Boot" Rick?

Errrr.. no!
It crashed twice when I had FCP and Quicktime running together as well as pasting screenshots into Youtube; strange horizontal lines (about 100 down the screen). After I stopped opening all the applications it didn't reoccur.
I think FCP takes a lot of memory and it was the problem. I know one should check in Activity Monitor but these things happen always when I'm busy and had set myself a deadline.
