This update ensures proper updating and restoring for iOS and iPadOS devices with a Mac.
Not sure what this means exactly - can anyone enlighten me please as I have never seen this before on my iMac?

I have had that message and I couldn't back up my iPhone or iPad until I had downloaded and installed it
