Battery Issues and Software Updates with 2016/17 MacBook Pros

There seems to be a problem with the latest Big Sur (11.2) and Catalina (10.15.7) updates and certain MBP versions that can leave the battery stuck at 1% charge.

There are supplementary updates out that seek to avoid this so make sure you're up to date. If your battery does suffer, Apple has a replacement programme here.

Note that Apple does not explicitly say that the updates have caused the problem but it's hard to read it any other way.
