Buzzing' Speaker

Avatar Rick Churchill
The right speaker in my 13 inch Macbook Pro (early 2015) now distorts at higher volumes. The headphones in the headphone jack are undistorted so the circuitry up stream of this outlet is OK. I don’t use the Mac speakers to play music and rarely have the volume set at more than 50%. Before I take the device to pieces to see if anything is obviously loose does anyone have any advice/similar experiences?

To avoid damaging the guts of your Macbook, use a Bluetooth speaker for sounds from the Macbook.

Yes thanks. I haven't had much success with Bluetooth speakers. They seemed to last a year then fail. I will be careful when I open the Macbook when I get round to it

As I've already put a 1 TByte SSD inside my Macbook (and put the same plus an uprated graphics card in my games PC) it doesn't hold so much terror for me. I always back up and, because none of my stuff is insured, I have enough cash in the bank for a new one.

Ah, so you're hoping to find out what debris/screws you left in there after the last upgrade Rick :)

I wondered where I'd left those pair of pliers. Have been blaming my neighbour for not returning them!

Update on my buzzing speaker, apparently a known failing with MacBooks. I bought a replacement on line and the new one performs as well as the old one. The disassembly/ assembly was straightforward aided by iFixit's guide.

I am always amazed to find the number of different screws that the Apple designers/engineers use. The internal are all Torque ones but different lengths which must make assembly more painstaking as well as having to keep separate stocks. Even 2 of the outside pentalobe screws are different!

Now for the next repair. See separate topic.
